  • Hello beautiful people. I’m so excited to talk about today’s topic: Heirloom Portrait Photography! This is a beautiful & unique style of image, and a service that I decided to bring to our area here in the North to my fellow “yankees” not only because it’s something we were lacking, but also to create special memories for my clients that these beautiful types of images have created in my own life. See, heirloom portraits have southern roots as does my family. I remember always looking at my mom and aunt’s baby pictures at my granny’s house that were done in this way. I recall so many times not being able to take my little eyes off of them. What a treasure to now be able to share (in so many ways)…something from my family to yours. Here are some examples of what we can create together…

2 framed heirloom style portraits are framed in white and leaning on a white couch with lace draping over one of the frames. Photo by Sweetly Stitched Images

    Some things to know…

After I edit your images, you will get to view and choose which ones you like best and first pick your digitals which will look a little something like the sweet images below. Most heirlooms sessions are done with children 6 months to 9 years, but there really isn’t an age limit and I LOVE the idea of not only NOT having a concrete age limit on the kiddos, but incorporating mom and/or dad too if at all possible.

What to expect during the session:

    A calming space and experience~

I have a beautiful studio space that provides comfort and shelter so you won’t have to worry about inclement weather, bugs, or littles running off too far.

Bright & clean edits with a vintage flair~

All of your edits will be dreamy yet classic so they never go out of style.

    Natural skin tones ~

Count on lovely, true to life skin tones that aren’t orange… No Oompa Loompa editing here!

    Luxury museum grade artwork~

After your session we will pick out the most beautiful images of your choice to print and display in your home for years and years to come. My prints are extremely high quality and are fit to keep your legacy alive and well for generations.

Want to try one for yourself?

If you are interested in an heirloom portrait session I offer them as a full session or the dainty version of them can be added on to any full lifestyle family session at a discounted rate. You can learn more about Sweetly Stitched Images & my process by clicking below… or if you KNOW you want to book a session, then yay!!! Do so here.

Thanks for reading beautiful people. I hope to provide this amazing experience with you and yours soon! Or if you are looking for a high quality dreamy-style Northwest Indiana photographer, you are in the right place. I’d love to work with you and your beautiful family in either way! Have an amazing day. 🙂

  • Brincka Cross Gardens

    in Northwest Indiana

is one of the most magical places to have your next photo session. I have photographed everything from seniors to families and beyond and it never disappoints. I can honestly say there is not a bad season to be photographed there, although the spring season often has my heart.

Brincka Cross Gardens is honestly one of the best places in Northwest Indiana for family photos. If you live in the area or you are vacationing I highly recommend this enchanting spot for your next special session. In springtime the magnolias are something to see and there are mounds of daffodils on the property that look like they run for miles. You can learn more about how this hidden gem came about and some of the other amazing species that were brought in and bloom beyond the spring season on the park’s website below…

Address: 425 E Furness Rd, Michigan City, IN 46360

    Website: Brincka Cross Gardens

Things to consider for your Brincka Cross Gardens Session…

There are a few things to know about the property so you can plan to the best of your ability for your photo session.

Brincka has come a long way with their parking game. There used to be only a couple of spots by where the house on the property resides, but now there is a whole gravel parking area just to the west of the property. You can park there and take the wood to gravel trail into the main part of the property now unless you were lucky enough to grab the slots near the house. I usually tell clients to meet me by the house, so with either parking area you’ll find your way eventually. 🙂

A second topic to think about is the bathroom situation. There is a porta potty on the property that honestly always seems pretty kept up when I have had to use it, but it’s definitely not ideal for outfit switches for say a senior session. With that said, just make sure you are prepared to perhaps change in the car. If you are there for a session that doesn’t require any changes then you are good to go.

Another thing to consider is bringing a blanket for your session. Even if it’s not something you will actually see in the photo, it’s nice to have for posing that may require you to lay or sit in spots that could be on the muddy side (which is a common occurance at Brincka Cross). The property is so shaded that sometimes even a day and a half after a rain, there are spots that hold the moisture in. Trust me when I say, it’s best to be prepared!

See? I actually had a blanket under Miss Lena when she laid and sat. I just didn’t want her to get her beautiful clothes muddy…

A final few tips for your Brincka Cross Gardens Session & preparing for the season accordingly…

One of the final, but IMPORTANT things I want to mention to do upon entering the park is to make sure you have bug spray on hand. I cannot stress this enough. I always, always, always come armed when I have a summer session because the few times I didn’t or I thought “Oh it’s early in the season, it will be fine.”, it wasn’t! After a few times of getting bit up I learned my lesson. And honestly, if it’s warm out…even if the mosquitos aren’t biting, it doesn’t mean there won’t be ticks lurking around… Better safe than sorry, ya dig?

Don’t get me wrong. You’ll still get gorgeous photos like my clients below, but we paid the price in mosquito bites for this particular session. LOL!

The last thing I would probably take the time to say is if you are on the trails just to do your due diligence and check for poison oak or ivy along the pathways. I will say the park does an AMAZING job at keeping things groomed, but if you have kid’s that explore a little off the beaten path there is no guarantee they won’t find some. As a precaution, throw them in a soapy bath by the evening after your session and they should be in the clear.

Welp, I think that’s all to report here beautiful people! If you are looking to get a gorgeous photo session at Brincka Cross Gardens from I don’t know…an amazing Northwest Indiana Heirloom Photographer (*wink*wink*), I’d love to help. Hit that button below if you’re ready to book or explore my website via the last link below! Easy Peasy…

  • Hello beautiful people! I am bringing another studio session to ya on this fine BEAUTIFUL spring day! To start off, I will tell you all the things I loved about these two sweeties before we get into some images. First, I’ll say Morgan’s dress pick was kind of everything. Not only did it help me with studio design, but it also ended up being the inspo for her hubby Scott’s wardrobe. He strolled in, in his magnificent salmon pink shirt and amazing cowboy boots & both Morgan and I were praising him for the perfect match to the vibe of the session plan! It was so darn sweet!!! Check it out…

    The Inspiration:

The inspiration for me was taken from the earthy feminine tones of Morgan’s dress. It also has a very romantic feeling to it with the watercolor roses which made the sweet & loving poses come to life a bit more. The softness was a perfect prelude to the little girl that’s on her way, and mom and dad were all about highlighting that belly which was adorable.

    Wardrobe:

Well, as I mentioned above, The dress was a stunner and created mounds of inspiration to pull from. Morgan chose this rose printed beauty from my client closet by the brand Baltic Born. It’s a brand that is probably the bulk of my closet for a few reasons… They are flattering, comfortable, gorgeous, & of superior quality. Scott kept things comfortable and casual, yet streamlined while keeping his personality with the aforementioned cowboy boots. 🙂

I was even able to do some double exposures using the gown florals…

    Studio Design:

Adding a few cream elements to my white mod couch such as a throw pillow and lace throw as well as the earthy, almost wheat like wreathes gave the perfect touches to the simple studio look. I also added some perfectly colored spring drieds into antique glass vases that were a wonderful subtle addition to the room. I love using a dried floral in my photos and this was an awesome session for that. My studio is located just outside of Chicago, Illinois. Conveniently located just off of 80/94.

    How to achieve this look:

~Choose earthy yet feminine tones for wardrobe choices.

    ~Subtle but purposeful decor choices

~Choose a great location with amazing natural light

    ~Hire professionals

    Enjoy your gorgeous day everyone!

    Hugs, Christina

  • Hellloooo beauties! I am soooo excited this sweet spring day to highlight this amazing Motherhood Session that I had the privilege of capturing for a couple of girls that are near & dear to me! My bestie and her daughter, the super-human Gianna came in for the sweetest Motherhood Session, and gasp! My bestie wore (drum roll please)…PINK! Yes that’s correct…My “what do you mean, black isn’t a spring color?” friend picked a pink dress from my client closet!!! She walked out in that dress at her styling appointment, and it honestly took my breath away! I love that I can offer dress and gown options… Ladies, you never know what you may LOVE on & this was the perfect example! Let’s take a little looksie…

    The Inspiration:

Honestly the inspiration for this was linked to the gown for me! I knew it would keep things SUPER feminine & soft and that was the goal for me throughout the session. I just wanted everything to reflect love and a subtle playfulness between mother & daughter. We knew we wanted to utilize my studio located in charming Chesterton, Indiana, just outside of Chicago. And I’m so happy we did! The pinks against the whites mixed with the spectacular natural light created an amazing simplicity that allowed these little ladies to shine like the stars they freaking are! And speaking of shining stars… Gianna took over for a few with cuteness overload!!!

    Studio Design:

I had 2 motherhood sessions this same week and decided to attack them with something that would fit both in unique ways to their session. So what better floral to choose than baby’s breath? I just loved the villow-y softness it added to the background. Just enough to be decor, but not AT ALL to take away from the main characters in our story! I also added an amazing antique dusty rose lace throw picked up on one of my Michigan travels at a beautiful antique market, and a simple book on a mod ottoman completed the look.

    Wardrobe:

As I mentioned… It’s amazing what you might find that looks stunning on you…even when you never would have guessed it! Michelle’s gown is by Baltic Born and we dressed Gianna based on what she had chosen, which I assure you was A-Ok with our little doll baby! She put her beautiful lace & tulle gown on and spun around in the mirror multiple times admiring herself. Oh my goodness, if you could’ve been a fly on the wall…it was a sight to see!!! Michelle’s pink stunner and Giannas lovely magical lace number are both from my client closet. 🙂

    To Achieve this look:

~Monochromatic color choices with different textures to create depth

~Carefully Curated antiques & small simple touches

~Choose an amazing location with great lighting

    ~Hire professionals

Thanks for reading lovelies! I sincerely hope you enjoyed this magical PINK Motherhood Session!!!!

    Hugs, Christina

  • Hello beautiful people! Today I wanted to talk about this amazing session that took place in my oh-so-sweet natural light studio in Chesterton, Indiana. If you’re new to my work, my studio is in a charming, historical building just a hop skip and a jump from Chicago, Illinois. I love everything about it, but mostly that it has provided me with a place to make magical sessions and visions come to life for my clients. Today’s highlighted session is a shining example of this. Meet my gorgeous friend Cindy & her stunning teenage girls…

    The Inspiration:

This session was truly a dream, and pushed me creatively as it was my first Motherhood session with teenagers. And you guys…I’m in love. I had such an amazing experience with these little women! And speaking of little women…that was the main vision that popped into my head when planning things out. That and Jane Austen novels. It was probably due to the fact that these gals and their gorgeous fair skin reminded me of the time periods. When I told the girls, they loved the idea, and we ran with it. We incorporated antiques right from the girl’s home that held sentimental value to them, herbal teas, and I even brought in my collection of Jane Austen novels which sweet Emma opened up right to “Emma” as she read a few pages. I can’t tell you how much I felt like everything was meant to be as the session day came & unfolded!

    Studio Design:

With the theme in mind, Studio design was kept simple with antique milk glass vases and baby’s breath adorning my antique gold side table, and I hung bouquets of baby’s breath that I lovingly wrapped with an eyelet lace ribbon, remembering the dress mom had chosen at their styling appointment. It came together even more perfect than I could’ve imagined, exuding beauty in the simplicity.

    Wardrobe:

Dresses were all chosen with my complimentary client closet access that comes with each session! My gown and dress choices are carefully curated with comfort & beauty in mind and flattered the girl’s stunningly. I can honestly say, they tried on quite a few, and I’m so glad we landed on the dreamy white. They were absolutely angelic! They were all from Baltic Born which is a brand I absolutely adore.

    To achieve this look:

~Simple colors & muted whites with mixed textures

    ~Blend classic & modern

~Choose an amazing location with good lighting

    ~Hire professionals

Thanks for reading beauties! Hope you enjoyed these amazing little women!

    Hugs, Christina

  • Hi there beautiful people! So this week I shared with you some of my ADORABLE husband’s headshot images, and wow did you guys show him some love. 🙂 So I guess, first, I’d like to say thanks for that. Not only was it nice to see that you all loved the work, but I’m sure it was a pleasant thing for him to see as well. With that said, I’m going to let you all know a little secret. A few months back, we had talked about updating his headshots for use for his job & business. He said it was important to him to have images that look like he looks right now and I agreed. Well, time got away from us… things came up… he got a new job, trainings were out of state, and just life gets busy right? Right!

Fast forward to when he got back from all of his traveling, and he says basically: ” Babe, I still want you to do my headshots in your style, but they did take some for me when I did my training.” He then went on to explain that they were really bad. And honestly, you guys, my first thought was “They are probably fine” as he tends to be pretty hard on himself. When I voiced that, he replied that he thought they were unusable.

You guys…he was right. My reaction to the photos were: These literally look nothing like you! Why wouldn’t they help pose you better? After that we both just kind of laughed about them, but I will just let you all judge for yourself. LOL! (And YES, I absolutely asked his permission to share these with you, in case you had a doubt.) So without further ado…Here’s the photos he received…

Now ya get it? Ha! So long story short, within about a week I was at the studio and get a text from him asking if he could pop in for a quick session. LOL! Honestly, I was excited and we had a great time, but most importantly he was so happy with the results. So as much as the title for this is meant to give you a little laugh, I also want to say if you are looking for some updated headshots that look like you, then be like Johnsie & come on over to the studio. Let me capture some great images that are authentically you, and maybe even have some fun while we’re at it. 🙂

Scroll on to see some afters of our session…

    Thanks for reading beauties!

  • Hey beautiful people! I have been loving being able to start this journey into luxury photography, and one of the coolest parts about it has been curating my client closet and being able to help moms look & feel their best by offering wardrobe help and styling to create the magical photos of their dreams. Sometimes I just go into my client closet and thumb through the gowns and shot ideas will play through my head in a cinematic reel. I absolutely have LOVED building this from the ground up and hope to grow it even more in the coming years!

With that said, I thought I would share some of my favorite picks for the upcoming spring & summer seasons. This way I can help my local clients or vacation clients alike take a little peek into some of their choices, but also give any mama out there an idea of what’s out there in the world these days and inspire them for their next dreamy photoshoot….

So, in no particular order…Here’s some of my picks and what I love about them…

#1- Light Baby Pink Off the Shoulder Gown

Color: The lightest, creamiest, dreamiest pink shade.

    Material/Style: Chiffon Gown

My most favorite thing about it: It’s the epitome of spring and summer as far as the color goes. I can just picture a beautiful mama nose to nose with her toddler amongst blowing trees and a light breeze.

    #2- Pink Smocked Dress

    Color: Blush Pink

    Material/Style: Chiffon, Smocked Bodice Dress

Favorite thing about it: It looks like poetry in a dress. There is a gathered shoulder detail as well the cuffs and skirt that play together beautifully. I see mom walking hand in hand with her kids and hubby…happy as can be.

#3- Pink & Orange Floral Dress

Color: Dark Pink, Light Orange, White Floral

Material/Style: Cotton Blend/ Puff Sleeve Smocked Dress

Favorite thing about it: It’s fun and beautiful, but in a subdued way. I could see a mama sitting on her couch cuddling with her family or even giving her baby a sink bath in it. It’s not super fancy, but that’s its charm.

    #4- Dreamy Tulle Gown

    Color: Multi Pastel Floral

Material/Style: Tulle & Poly Blend V-Neck Smocked Waist

Favorite thing about it: It’s absolutely stunning and a dream to photograph. Gives me visions of the most magical maternity session on the planet.

#5- Ruffled Floral Cut Out Dress

Color: Baby Pink, Lavender, & White Floral

    Material/Style: Chiffon Boho-esque Dress

Favorite thing about it: The ruffles and gathering throughout make this one of my all time favorites. It also has cut outs on the sides of it which gives it such a pop of personality. I see mom looking out the window with her babies around her and in her arms.

#6- Baby Blue Ruffled Skirt Polka Dot Dress

    Color: Baby Blue

    Material/Style: Chiffon Boho-esque Dress

Favorite thing about it: This dress is absolutely breathtaking, and it has a TON of detail without making it look like too much detail. It has smocked sleeves, ribbon details on the shoulder. Subtle polka dots, and a ruffled skirt. It’s a stunning dress for an artistic, feminine soul. I see it outside, inside, & all around… & pairs beautifully with bare feet. 🙂

#7- Puff Sleeve Floral Tea Time Dress

Color: White with Blue & Gold Florals

    Material/Style: Poly Blend Boho Gown

Favorite thing about it: The sleeves and tiny ruffle details throughout. I feel like you could see mama having a tea party with her little ones. Fancy hat optional. Ha!

#8- Off Shoulder 70’s-esque Floral Gown

Color: Baby Pink, Light Olive Floral

    Material/Style: Chiffon Boho-esque Gown

Favorite thing about it: It’s kind of a wild card! It has a very 70’s looking print and color palette, but it’s so dreamy, comfy, and the off the shoulder element makes it so feminine. I see a maternity session with hubby on a breezy day with lots of movement.

    #9- White Flowy Eyelet Dress

    Color: Pure White

Material/Style: Cotton Blend, Puff Sleeve, Very Feminine Dress

Favorite thing about it: The epitome of summer! The material makes it perfect for a hot day and would lend itself to mom at the beach playing & dancing with her babes in bare feet.

#10- Off Shoulder Lacey Dream Gown

    Color: Off White

Material/Style: Eyelash Boho Lace Off the Shoulder Gown

Favorite thing about it: The lace makes it one of the most romantic choices in my opinion. I absolutely adore this one. It’s so versatile…. I can see it just as much indoors as out, from a beachy maternity session to mom and dad laughing with the kids on the couch. You can’t go wrong with this one.

And that’s it for now cuties! Again, I am SO EXCITED to share this with my Northwest Indiana Chicagoland Sweetly Stitched Images mamas as well as the baby wardrobe and props I have for newborns!

The plan is to make this a space to share what I’m doing around the studio and around Northwest Indiana and beyond. And whether it be tips on how to get ready for your session or even a quick recipe for the tired mamas, I hope to give helpful advice to families.
